The Rockliff Liberal Government is on a path to be the nation’s renewables powerhouse and we welcome today’s announcement of proposed solar and wind energy projects by Tasmanian company TasRex.
Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, said Tasmania is 100 per cent self-sufficient in renewable electricity and was the first Australian jurisdiction to achieve net zero emissions, and has done so for the past nine years.
“Tasmania’s renewable status would not have been possible without the ingenuity and courage of thousands of Tasmanians through Hydro Tasmania and recent wind-farm developments.
“Our MOU with TasRex covers onshore and offshore renewable energy opportunities and their commitment to a Tasmanian supply chain and local jobs.
“We share the view that Tasmania is extremely well placed to develop more renewable energy to support our long-term plan for a growing economy and supporting jobs, many in regional communities.
“The State needs more renewable electricity to meet the demand of our growing economy and future industries, to ensure our energy security, to keep power prices low, and continue our zero emissions status.
“The Rockliff Liberal Government is committed to increasing our renewable energy production. We are the renewables powerhouse of Australia and we intend to remain there, and projects by local companies like TasRex can help us to achieve this vision.”
Minister Duigan said that more energy means more jobs and by getting more renewable power into the network, Tasmania will have the lowest power prices in the nation.
